Overview
Surface Labs is a procedural texture and material authoring application.
It’s built as an independent, portable alternative to tools like Substance Designer and Material Maker, with no subscription model and no cloud dependency. The application runs fully offline. Projects are ordinary files on disk, so you can back them up or move them between machines with Git, Dropbox, or a copy and paste.

Section titled “Who it’s for”Everyone! Surface Labs came out of needing non-subscription software as an indie developer with a limited budget.
It’s new to the market, and it has the means to fill in professional pipelines working in Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, VFX, or anything else that takes PBR textures.
What makes it different

Section titled “It’s f****** fast”A Rust engine delivers multiple times faster performance on many nodes of comparable features. Most Noises render in less than 1ms on Desktop and Tablets, with many nodes running compute shaders for large performance gains.
The Surface Labs Speed Test measures this node by node against Substance 3D Designer 13.1.2, including the one bracket where Substance comes out ahead.
It works everywhere

MCP is built in

No subscriptions

How it works
Section titled “How it works”Like most procedural workflows, textures are noise layered together into patterns and recognizable materials. The graph is non-destructive and puts tiling first, so you can iterate and polish all you’d like.
